Summer 2022....

A year to remember for Artists of Mallorca!
It has been a very exciting year, with our first exhibition, held in the Tunel de l'Art in Port de Soller, Mallorca in June. Watching the transformation of a damp tunnel into an art exhibition, and seeing hundreds of people arrive for the launch evening is something we won't forget in a hurry! It was fabulous to meet the artists, and to see their work after 2 years of distant interactions. It was also good to hear thoughts and ideas. The support from the town hall in Soller was great in allowing the event to take place.
This small article from Sa Veu de Soller was the first ever mention of Artists of Mallorca in the press!
There was lots of great feedback from the event, with visitors enjoying the standard and variety of the art, and expressing a wish for more like it in the future.
As soon as it ended, work on the first edition of the Artists of Mallorca art prize started in earnest. Having the judges on board - Natalia Spitale, Miguel Angel Delgado and PetraEveline Dahmen, and Can Prunera hosting the final were the important operational components, then it was all about the support from artists to enter the competition. Would anyone enter?
Fortunately, the answer was yes! Choosing the 22 finalists was a difficult job for the judges, and the challenge on 27th of August to decide on the winner, seeing the art live for the first time, was much harder! IB3 television channel had arrived to film the final, adding to the excitement of the day:
Can Prunera was filled with people form 12pm till 2pm, all interested to see the finalists and to help celebrate the winner, Miguel Angel Bernat. It was a fabulous occasion, and handing over the prize felt like a major achievement, seeing the idea through to its conclusion. Later that day was the Nit de l'Art in Soller, so both events were covered in a huge article by Xisco Barcelo here in Mallorca Diario. A couple of weeks later, Vicki McLeod asked for an interview for the Mallorca Bulletin, and for her podcast Mallorca,Majorca. Talking to her, and seeing the article made me realise just how exciting the summer had been! Sometimes when you are in the middle of things, it's hard to see them from the outside.
So, what's next? Watch this space! Huge thanks to everyone who has supported Artists of Mallorca so far.
Saludos
