On Saturday 26 August 2023, Claudia Keupen was named winner of the Artists of Mallorca Art Prize 2023. The sun shone, so we were in the garden of the beautiful Can Prunera Museu Modernista in Soller, all 20 works in the final looking fantastic in the sunshine.

We had a lovely surprise when the Xeremiers de Soller turned up and played to open the final! The sound of bagpipes is always emotional, and added to the sense of occasion.

The jury - Natalia Spitale, Miguel Angel Delgado and PetraEveline Dahmen - had spent the morning looking at the art and deliberating on the winner. As with last year, it was a very difficult choice, but finally all agreed on Poem to the Ocean by Claudia. She was very pleased to win, and her family and friends were with her to celebrate.

This year, we had the additional excitement of the Finalists Exhibition in the Museu de Soller. The final itself is obviously quite nerve wracking, and so it is great to have the opportunity to see the artists again, and to see the work without the added stress of wondering who the winner is going to be.

Friday 8 September was the inauguration of the exhibition, with many people coming along to have a glass of wine and enjoy the art. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the artists enjoyed chatting to each other and the visitors.

The exhibition is on until 16 September, open Monday to Friday 10.00 - 14.00 and 18.00 - 20.00, Saturday 11.00 - 13.00.
