Mats de Boer

Mats de Boer (born in Germany in MMIII) is a Dutch artist who works between Mallorca and Madrid. He began painting at the age of eleven, after the intervention of a teacher who recognized his early talent and pushed him towards large-scale art formats. At sixteen, he sold minimalism work from his family home in the Balearic Islands and walked around the city carrying paintings by hand to frame and send. His training continued with an apprenticeship with a Mallorcan artist and, later, with architecture studios in Madrid, where he curatored his first exhibitions and collaborations, consolidating a sustained practice and a growing dialogue with collectors, galleries and design studios. Currently, he works outdoors on the family finca in Colònia de Sant Pere, where he uses natural pigments that he obtains from the island's own land. His work is of large format and reductionist character, deeply linked to the territory through its materials and processes. Mats’ works have been collected and exhibited internationally, with pieces residing across 4 continents. Most notably, Mats is behind the design of the viral sushi brand, Suka Sushi.
